Demo Strategies - StandardPioneer Bootcamp Curriculum
TL;DR
Your personal Demo Strategy in this bootcamp will make friends and enemies, at some level.
This doc helps you create an approach that serves your best interests as a bootcamp participant.
KEY POINT: You probably want to focus on some flavor of etiquette around your demos.
Right now we are really small and all buddies. So most of this doesn't even apply until we get bigger, as a group.
Demo Etiquette
Charm school for the post-attention-trolling world is an evolving concern. It will remain a bit stopgap for a few years.
Meanwhile - don't forget why we are all here. It's a huge pain, just to even show up for one lame-ass demo session. Think about that other guy, too. He's here to listen to you drone on, don't punish him/he for the effort :)
Make it interesting and valuable!
Evolving Tips
- focus on what would be interesting to others, not what you had to do to demo
- everyone wants to work on being impressive to the potential customer/employer !!!!!!!
- think in terms of your top 3 or so high value learnings, fan out from there
- stick to your time slot religiously. If you don't finish - too bad. Probably wasn't important.
Easy list of things to avoid
- anything more than 4 or 5 main points
- long enumeration of features that are too deep to absorb in a few seconds
- long listing of stuff you had to do
- things that you would only care about if you were deep in the weeds of this agent
- mistakes that you made - unless you think they would be valuable landmines for everyone
- whining about anything including your own self doubts. Dude, that's all of us, every day. It's a given.
Easy list of HIGH VALUE things to include
- stuff that really makes this valuable to a business type who is going to pay you to implement for them
- landmines for other developers to watch for
- eye candy - if it can be shown in seconds, not minutes
- links to public documentation where they can learn more on their own
- contact information or preferences
- invite/ask for tips from others
